Searching High and Low

Adventure Log by Neil the Explorer: Marked by the setting sun and the chirping crickets, today was our first full day of searching for the Lost Mummy. It was decided that by splitting up we could cover more territory, and I’ve got to tell you, if Tom and Megan’s feet are as tired as mine then we’ll all sleep well tonight.

I did explore some fantastic ruins this afternoon, and I’m excited to share these recent discoveries with my fellow adventurers. I’m definitely going to need Megans help decoding the walls of hieroglyphics as I think they may provide clues as to the location of the Lost Mummy. I’ve marked this area on my map so that I can find it later and will most likely set up camp nearby.

Most of the locals I’ve talked to have heard about the legend and speak of a secret map scribbled on papyrus - but I have yet to come across any maps besides my own. Tomorrow I will continue hiking north towards the “Ostraca Caves” and take some more pictures. I hope that Megan and Tom have unearthed some clues as well - my gut tells me that we’re searching in the right place.

I was able to tape record the sound of crickets down by the river which I find more soothing than counting sheep (yawn) as I'm about to fall deeply and soundly asleep. Signing off, Neil.

Hearing those crickets reminded me – did your team make sure and grab that mosquito repellent I talked about, the one with “deet”, it should be in those first aid kits I sent with you, so make sure and put some on your legs and arms. I don’t want those bugs to bug ya too much :)

Hi there Neil. I can't agree more with Karen about the insect repellent. I'm not sure where your team is searching, but if you are in Africa be careful not just of mosquitos but also the tsetse fly - a pesky two winged fly found only in Africa that has a nasty bite and can cause sleeping sickness. Trust me, you don't want to catch that! I recommend that you also use an insect net at night to keep those biting critters away while sleeping. You can never be too careful. Good luck in your search!

Hi Neil, I've got a fun brain teaser for you, let's see if you can answer before the rest of Mighty World figures it out:

What can run but never walks, has a mouth but never speaks, has a head but never weeps, and has a bed but never sleeps?

Do any of you kids know the answer?

I know, I know the answer: A RIVER!!!

Very well done Francesca, you're a very clever girl indeed. The correct answer to that riddle was in fact a river. Nice job. :)

I was going to say "babbling brook" but I guess that's a mouth that never stops speaking. hehe

Hey guys, have you met any of my cousins yet? Watch out for Loopy the Lion, his name sort of gives away his mental state. Any problems with him, just get back to me, the family will sort him out.

Dearest Buddy the Cat,

You must think I've been "cat-napping" with a fever - rest assured your message was rescued from my spam folder just seconds ago, and none too late. We HAVE SPOTTED A LION just 2 days ago, and we may need your furry help. None of us speak feline here at base camp and the nightly roar from the jungle has Tom trembling in his sleeping bag.

I'm not sayin' it's Loopy for sure, but we may need you to talk to the beast, we'll come calling your whiskers if thing get too hairy.

Big Meow out to you Buddy.

Megan :)
